There are several things you are going to like about the NETIKUS.NET-developed application NT Toolkit. First up you are going to like that getting the app off the web and onto your computer will only take a moment. It can’t take long for the download to complete, not when it weighs in some 12MB. Speaking of things that will only take a moment, installing NT Tools on your Windows-powered machine will go along rapidly and smoothly.

Next up you are going to like that NETIKUS.NET offers NT Toolkit for free. NT Toolkit is freeware, meaning you can use the application for as long as you want without paying a dime in return.

Lat but definitely not least, you are going to like the functionality NT Toolkit has to offer. What is NT Toolkit and what can it do? NT Toolkit is a collection of small programs that are meant to help network admins. Each program can do a specific task. Let’s take a look at the applications that come with NT Toolkit and what they can do:

  • IPMon - command-line utility that utilizes the WinPcap network driver to monitor IP traffic to the local host for troubleshooting and monitoring purposes
  • ADSList - analyzes one or more directories and lists any alternate data streams that are associated with a file.
  • NTPClient – presents the time as reported by a NTP server and calculates the local clock offset based on RFC 1315 and RFC 2030
  • IsAdmin – detects whether a user is a member of the local Administrators group
  • CheckDB – verifies a database connection through ODBC to ensure that a connection to a database can be established.
  • CheckURL verifies availability of a web page and can also check for content inside the page and/or verify the checksum of that page.
  • The Event Message Browser lets you view all available event messages that may be logged on your system.
  • Password Assistant - lets you update passwords of user accounts on multiple Windows machines
  • NetSend - allows you to send a text message to a remote Windows computer that is running the Messenger service
  • Hardlink Shell Extension - allows you to create hardlinks from within the explorer shell by right-clicking any file
  • ServiceSecure - reset service passwords by specifying the username and password
  • TaskSecure - manage the passwords stored in scheduled tasks on your network.
  • Logoff Delay - log off a user in a specified amount of time.
  • GetHTTP – command line application to retrieve files through the HTTP protocol.
  • File Replace - command line utility that parses a directory (including subdirectories) and replaces multiple occurrences of one template file
  • Super Delete - command line utility that parses a directory (including subdirectories) and deletes multiple occurrences of one file
  • CheckTCP - command line application that can determine whether a TCP port on a host is open
  • FPing (Fast Ping) - command line substitution to the traditional ping.exe utility which ships with Windows
  • Sleep - command line application to pause input for a specified amount of time
  • PageSNPP - command line application that sends text messages to pagers through the SNPP protocol
  • Uptime - command line application that will show you the current uptime of your server or workstation
  • SHAChecksum - command line application that will show you the SHA-256 checksum of file
  • Dirsize - command line application that will show you the size of a directory and its subdirectories
  • WakeOnLAN - command line application that will send a "magic" packet to wake up computers with network cards that support the WakeOnLAN feature
  • Dirmon (DirectoryMonitor) - command line application that monitors a directory for file changes in real-time.

NT Toolkit is an useful set of tools to help network admins out there automate certain system administration tasks.
